Chicago Shakespeare Theater approached us in need a large male figure to play the ghost of a character’s father. They had specific constraints for sizing - needing the figure to fit in narrow backstage space. Only the back of the figure would be visibile, so we sliced off the front, and scaled it to fit their needs.
To create this 6’ ghostly guy, we utilized a double sided 3D milling workflow—slicing a digital model into machinable parts before carving layers out of foam on our CNC.
The milled layers are assembled, filled and sanded to remove all layer lines. Finally, the figure was theatrically painted in a ghostly pallor, then coated in foam-safe epoxy to make it suitable for the show's American premiere tour.
